Academic Classes

Religion - Sr. Lillian

The fifth grade Theology focuses on the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist, the Center of Christian life. Students accompany one another along a faith journey to live out their lives as missionary disciples in the world. 

English - Mr. Dave Pomeroy

Math - Mrs. Kraft

Curriculum focuses on three critical areas:  developing fluency in fractions in all operations;  developing understanding of operations with decimals to hundredths while developing fluency with whole number and decimal operations while extending division to 2-digit divisors, integrating decimal fractions into the place value system and ; and finally developing an understanding of volume.

Science - Mrs. Kraft

The Science curriculum is aligned with the NGSS and uses an integrated approach. Unit Concepts in Earth & Space, Life, and Physical Sciences are studied. Students use and apply the scientific method while using safe lab practices, appropriate tools, and scientific measurement.

STEM - Mrs. Kraft

Science and Math are an integral part of the STEM instructional program. STEM projects therefore complement Science and Math topics covered in 5th grade.

Social Studies - Mrs. Demareski

An in depth study of the Regions of the United States and Canada.

Special Classes

Physical Education - Mr. Illenye

We work on fitness challenges throughout the year. Building up our strength and endurance. One mile run outside on the playground. Team building activities, and fitness activities.

Art - Mrs. McLaughlin

In Art class our number one goal is to instill a lifelong love of art. The 7 Elements of Art are taught throughout the year (Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Form, Space and Value). We also explore different art mediums/materials, and learn about art history through famous artist projects.

Music - Sr. MaryAnn Caspary

The music program provides students in each grade level with the opportunity to perform, to create and to listen to music.  Musical understanding  is gained by exploring and learning about the elements of music. 

Students learn to-sing in tune, sing ostinatos, and counter melodies, recognize longer/shorter, upward/downward, same/different, faster/slower sounds. Identify the instruments of the orchestra families( strings, woodwind, brass and percussion). Play rhythm patterns expressively to show tempo, dynamics and style. Continue  playing  the recorder, learn notes B,A,G,F,E. Play simple folk songs and duets. Practice reading notes on the treble clef.  All students will have the opportunity to develop their Catholic identity and deepen their faith by singing hymns.

Spanish - Sr. Lillian

Students in grades K-5 are introduced to the sounds of a Foreign Language and basic vocabulary,  conversation and culture through a series of interactive experiences. The curriculum at each of the levels reinforces prior knowledge and enhances the development of world language skills.
