What is STEM?
STEM is a curriculum that integrates four disciplines - Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics - in an interdisciplinary and applied approach based on real-world applications.
Our Approach
STEM education, grounded in Catholic values, will prepare and empower our students to collaborate and be morally responsible contributors to the advancement of the global community through their creativity.
Why STEM?
STEM shows students how the scientific method can be applied to everyday life by focusing on the real world applications of problem solving. For example:
- Elementary school - STEM education focuses on the introductory level; the goal is to get students interested and bridging in-school and out-of-school STEM learning opportunities.
- Middle school - STEM courses become more rigorous and challenging. Student exploration of STEM fields, academic requirements and careers, especially for underrepresented populations starts here.
STEM Courses
3D Printing
3D Printing is offered as an extracurricular for those students interested in the process of creating and manufacturing three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. St. Anthony School has a total of five 3D printers for student use.
3D printing technology is expected to change the way we live, work and play by providing lower cost products for communities in need, such as:
- dental products;
- eyewear;
- architectural scale models;
- prosthetics;
- reconstruction of bones and body parts in forensic pathology; and
- much more!
Engineering
Engineering fosters problem-solving skills, including problem formulation, iteration, testing of alternative solutions, and evaluation of data to guide decisions.
Engineering projects integrate other disciplines, engaging students in hands-on, real-world engineering experiences.
Children engineer informally all the time and by encouraging these explorations in elementary school we can keep these interests alive.
